‘Big and loud’

"sometimes abstract, sometimes literal, sometimes symbolic, always fanciful.... Essentially, the lavish staging redefines naturalism with a generous vocabulary of bracing expressive gestures. It would be less than realistic to pretend that everything makes sense at first sight. Still, Goebbels and his noble cohorts provide almost enough visual invention to overcome Andriessen’s musical rambling."
